Sometimes life can feel overwhelming. Maybe things at home aren’t going well, you’re dealing with a family crisis, or you just need a safe place to stay while figuring out your next steps. No matter what you’re facing, you don’t have to go through it alone.
The Teen Emergency Shelter (TES) is a safe, supportive place for young people ages 10–17 who need help during difficult times. As the only shelter of its kind within 125 miles, TES provides immediate support, guidance, and a caring environment where teens can focus on their future.
More Than Just a Place to Stay
TES is an eight-bed coed shelter where teens can find stability, support, and encouragement. Staying at the shelter is completely voluntary, and many youth arrive through referrals from schools, law enforcement, Child Protective Services, Juvenile Probation, or one of the area’s Safe Place locations.
Our goal isn’t just to provide a safe bed for the night—it’s to help teens build the skills and confidence they need to move forward.
Support for Teens and Families
Every situation is different, which is why counseling is a key part of the program. Licensed professionals work with teens and their families to:
- Reduce tension during crisis situations
- Identify challenges that led to the crisis
- Develop healthy coping skills
- Improve communication and relationships
- Create a positive environment for personal growth
We believe every young person deserves the opportunity to grow into a confident, responsible, and successful adult.
Building Skills for the Future
While staying at TES, teens can participate in programs designed to help them succeed in everyday life, including:
- Independent living skills
- Social skills development
- Educational support and encouragement
- Goal setting and decision-making skills
Support doesn’t end when a teen leaves the shelter. Families can receive free aftercare counseling services for up to six months to help maintain progress and strengthen family relationships.
