Why should you give during Texoma Gives?
The purpose of an area-wide day like Texoma Gives is to bring the region together on one day to raise money and awareness for Texoma nonprofits. This initiative, organized by the Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation (WFACF), provides an online location to find and support nonprofit organizations whose missions align with your passion. Your monetary gifts make nonprofits stronger and stronger nonprofits make our community stronger.
How does it help our agency?
Children come to us every day holding the hand of a social worker or a runaway is escorted by a policeman. Their eyes tell their stories, but once at the shelters, they know they are safe from the abuse, neglect, abandonment, and parental rejection. Some have come to us before; some will come again. They stay until it’s safe to go back home or out-of-home care can be found. Our shelters are a place for children to heal physically and emotionally. Children may remain in care for a few hours, or for several weeks, or for a few months.
For the past 112 years our agency has cared for abused and homeless youth in this community. The Children’s Home and Teen Shelter are committed to providing youth a safe, supportive environment in which they can make constructive decisions about their future and their relationships with others. The Teen Shelter has been helping the runaway homeless youth population for the past 32 years!
Our Services Include: Basic Care Emergency Shelter & Assessment Services for youth ages 2-17. Toll-free Hotline, food, clothing, school supplies, personal items, and toys. Advocacy through the medical and legal systems. Transportation. Confidential counseling- individual, group, family, and after-care. Information and referral to other community services. Our focus is self care and increased coping skills, education improvement, employment readiness, life skills, counseling, and support/prevention services.
