We are blessed by those who have given to help our children and agency over the past 107 years of service. The community’s ongoing compassion for the youth in our shelters is truly something to feel thankful for this holiday season.

The Children’s Defense Organization reminds us that every 47 seconds a child is abused or neglected. Every 29 seconds, a child is born into poverty. In Texas more than 100,000 youth ages 7-18 run away annually. Our community realizes crisis services are needed. Our supporters want to help children facing abuse or homelessness feel safe again; and we appreciate those acts of kindness.

Much was accomplished in 2019. We renovated the Teen Shelter Living Room with donor support. Volunteers helped refurbish our front yard and back yard play areas. We expanded our Art Gallery wall to display our youth’s creativity. We renovated our clothing shed with volunteers and donor support.  We added a new commercial refrigerator and replaced a washer and a dryers in both shelters. We have been truly blessed to be able to keep our buildings looking warm and inviting for the children. Volunteers make such a difference in these many projects. God Bless you for your help each year!

As always I am looking for lots of elves to help shop, donate money or gift cards, or items to help make Christmas a magical memory that the youth can cherish. You can be a part of that dream. The children who live in our shelters range in age from 1 year through 17 years. The youth really enjoyed the outing gift cards (movies, golf, go-karts rides, trampoline center, restaurant cards, etc.) from last year!

Every year at Christmas we have youth who believe that said Santa would not find them at the shelter because Santa never found him/her before. We always reassure our children that we have a close friendship with Santa and he never misses our youth. It is awful to think that children and teens don’t believe in Santa because of family crisis and poverty. Some youth reluctantly make a list and when Santa does arrive the joy in their smiles makes all the difference! Believing in hope and that life can be better is the best gift of all! Your help makes this happen and we THANK YOU for your generous support!

I want all of our youth to experience the magic of the Christmas Spirit. They don’t understand the time and love put in to making Christmas special that I see each and every year. Seeing the compassion of our donors, volunteers, and staff help me see the true meaning of Christmas.

This year we have added some items the shelters could use to help provide better care for the children and teens. We appreciate your kindness and support. Please review our list below to determine how you can help.

If you can find it in your heart to donate or help out at Christmas this year, please call me at 940-322-3141. For those that have helped in years past, I look forward to hearing from you again.
